Wisdom Teeth

Postby Psykiblue on Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:53 am

mine are killing me. I need to get them out but my dentist will only take them out one at a time and I have five, I have a feeling that this isn't going to be as easy as he thinks it is.

I have a feeling its going to be painful but it'll be a relief to have it over and done with.

Why 1 at a time? My hubby had 5 and they were all bigger then they are supposed to be but they still took them all at once.

i guess that depends on whether they are easy to pull or not. i had 4, and they had to be removed one at a time. the first was easy, the second was harder, and the third was really horrible as in embedded in the jaw-bone. that was when i decided that i'm going to keep the fourth one forever :lol
it really depends on how they are positioned, if they have broken through the surface or not, have turned and are sideways or god knows what.

also, if it's not so easy to pull them, you would need general anaesthesia (not just local) to get them all out at once. otherwise it would be way too stressful for you (and the doctor).

what did your doctor say? will it be easy to get them out? also, i didn't know that you can have more than 4 wisdom teeth

When I had xrays a few years ago I was told that i have five, no idea now, but I was also told that I wouldn't have to get put out for it either. that they'll just yank it out.

We'll see my sister thought it was fun to regal me with horror stories about it. I'm traumatized for life *lol*

I fortunately enver had any wisdom teeth but saw my brother and sister go through it. They both were given a general at the dentist and had them done there. Other then a little discomfort and a swollen face its not that bad.

depends on what needs to be done, where and how they are embedded. i had surgery (only local anaethesia) that lasted over an hour, just for one tooth. VERY uncomfortable and stressful.

my wisdom teeth extration was easy to, it was the other tooth that was extracted that was a problem.

I had to reply to this one because 3 and 1/2 years later I finally had them out.

turns out I had 6 wisdom teeth not 5. I had one removed as it has erupted and was causing a lot of pain. It was hellish and painful and I was dreading getting the other 5 out. I requested a different doctor for the 5 to come out.

I never had a hitch. No pain, no swelling or bruising. So I am glad they're out. My mouth feels better already.
